QPR boss Harry Redknapp criticised his side’s defending in this afternoon’s 2-1 defeat at Burnley – complaining that his players had made Scott Arfield look like Lionel Messi.
The London side fell to their 10th defeat in 10 Premier League away games this season as Arfield’s solo goal put Burnley in front and Danny Ings then netted the winner after Charlie Austin had levelled from the spot.
“I thought at 1-1 we were right in the game and then we gave a horrendous goal away,” Redknapp said.
“It cost us dearly. Defenders have to defend.
“For the first goal we’ve got three men around their guy. We’re not talking about Lionel Messi, he’s gone past three far too easily.
“The second goal was poor defending, the ball was dropping between two and you’ve got to clear the ball.
“Seven or eight of that team playing today played for us in the Championship and we finished miles behind Burnley, so we can’t get carried away as to who we are.
“We’re where we are, scrapping away with Burnley and Leicester, who were miles in front of us last year.”
