Notts County sit third in League One under boss Shaun Derry, and have former Manchester United duo Alan Smith and Roy Carroll in their squad.

Stanley drew 1-1 at Newport County in League Two on Saturday, when Finnish keeper Jesse Joronen made his third appearance for the Reds after joining on a month-long loan from Fulham.

Joronen said former Stanley stopper Marcus Bettinelli played a big role in his decision to join the club.

The two have been battling it out at Fulham this season for the number one spot, a fight that Bettinelli has won for now.

Joronen, who has one cap for the national team, started the Cottagers first four Championship games of the season, but has since made way for Bettinelli.

That has allowed Joronen to make the move to Stanley – following in the footsteps of his Craven Cottage teammate, who made 39 appearances for the Reds over two loan spells.

“I have enjoyed the past few weeks, playing alongside the lads and meeting with them,” said Joronen.

“They are a very nice bunch of lads and I love it, it’s lovely to be around here. They have taken me in and games have started to go well.

“When I knew Accrington wanted to take me on loan, Marcus told me loads and everything was good. I felt comfortable to come here as Marcus said so many good things about Accrington.”

Joronen’s spell with Stanley didn’t get off to the best of starts, conceding after just 55 seconds at Stevenage, but he is now feeling more comfortable after the win over Hartlepool and the draw at Newport County.

“Obviously I would like to forget that first minute of my debut,” said Joronen. “But since then everything has gone well and we have started to pick up points and we are heading to where we are supposed to be.”
