IT was the perfect 10 for in-form Blackburn Rovers Ladies as they secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Lancashire FA Women’s Challenge Cup in emphatic fashion.

Sunday’s 10-0 home win over Blackpool stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to 10 matches and set them up perfectly for this weekend’s table-topping Women’s Premier League Northern Division clash at Coventry City.

Katie Anderton and Danielle Sheen both bagged hat-tricks as red-hot Rovers scored five goals in each half.

Alex Taylor set up Anderton for the opener and the same two players combined to double the advantage.

Anderton then completed her treble, volleying home the Blackpool goalkeeper’s clearance, before Sheen, with an unstoppable shot, and Taylor, by converting a cross from Sophia Riccio, got in on the act.

Rovers picked up from where they left off at the start of the second half with Sheen firing a fine first-time finish into the top corner following a Mille Shaw cross.

The striker then latched on to an incisive through ball from Amie Fleming to notch her third and final goal of a thoroughly one-sided game.

But the scoring was not over yet.

Jess Holbrook made it eight with a sublime curling shot before Anderton took a pass from Lynda Shepherd and lifted the ball over the keeper to take her personal tally to four.

Anderton then repaid the favour for Shepherd to round off the scoring from 12 yards.

Rovers boss Gemma Donnelly, whose side will host Bury in the last eight, said: “It was a very pleasing performance and pleasing to see the goals come from several different sources. “The girls are producing consistently good performances, irrespective of the opposition, demonstrating a very professional attitude.”
