LAST season in the Championship we were absolutely tremendous defensively, but now we are in the Premier League each week we are playing against international stars and I feel we cannot compete to keep them under control for the 90 minutes.

Against West Ham three headers got us well and truly walloped after a first half which was very even. Sam Allardyce wanted a win for his West Ham side to celebrate his 60th birthday and in the second half they outplayed us and he got his birthday present, much to his delight.

We did have a good first half but the story is we can’t score goals. I’m sorry, but the chances are being made but they are just not taking them, and as we all know it’s goals that win games.

One thing I have noticed is that Kieran Trippier is not able to get forward and put the crosses in like he did in the Championship, his supply this season has more or less dried up, but his opponents are seasoned internationals and it’s a different standard of football at that level.

We have got to believe that we can start scoring and get our first win eventually and I’m sure our very faithful fans will not desert the players through these very hard times.

The problem is, without a win, when it is 0-0 and you are on top but the chances aren’t going in, you become more nervous and it is a never ending cycle.

I believe things will change for the better as the manager has every faith in the players and we will come back to our former glory.

In the summer break we were chasing the West Brom centre half Craig Dawson, and I think the manager knew then he had to bolster the defence.

That appears to be the problem at this time, but saying that it is too early to press the panic button and I feel we can rise over these moments and start a run of results which I’m sure the players will gladly welcome, but none more so than Sean Dyche, who is working so hard on the squad to get success and no one can argue otherwise.

Danny Ings has just come back from injury and hopefully he will get back into that goalscoring mode when he returns to full fitness.

There is a lot resting on his shoulders, he was tremendous last season but he’s been out for a few weeks.

I don’t think he has linked up with Lukas Jutkiewicz that well just yet. For a big man Jutkiewicz doesn’t win that many headers, but hopefully it will start to fire and we can get that all important first win.
