SEAN Dyche insists he is not overly concerned about injury doubts hanging over both Burnley’s regular central midfielders ahead of tomorrow’s match at West Bromwich Albion – even though both his first choice strikers are already absent.

The Clarets will again take to the field without last season’s strike duo Danny Ings and Sam Vokes when they travel to the Hawthorns, and now they must wait to find out whether Dean Marney and David Jones will be available.

The central midfield partnership between Marney and Jones has been an important part of Burnley’s success in recent times and the Clarets will be keen to avoid losing any further members of the spine of the team.

Jones limped off with a thigh injury late in last weekend’s 0-0 draw at home to Sunderland, while Marney has a tight hamstring and will also be assessed ahead of the game.

But Dyche was philosophical about the prospect of losing further players to injury, believing he has a greater strength in depth this season to deal with such problems.

“The players are working tremendously hard and you can’t define every inch of their body every time they go out there,” the Burnley boss said about the injuries sustained by Marney and Jones.

“What we do know is that they’re very fit and strong players. We’ll get on top of their situations and hopefully they’ll come through them very quickly.

“Jonah obviously came off the pitch last week but luckily with his professionalism he got off sharpish so we’re hopeful that will settle.

“It has done over the last few days but we’ll know more on Saturday.

“We didn’t have as deep a squad as we needed last year, but we managed to make the most of it. We felt we’d need a deeper squad this time.”

Right back Kieran Trippier is also a doubt with a minor groin problem, although Dyche hopes he will be fit enough to train today.

The likes of Steven Reid and Michael Keane could be potential options at right back if required, while Reid, Scott Arfield and new boy Nathaniel Chalobah would be among those capable of featuring in central midfield.

Chalobah is yet to even be named on the bench after arriving on loan from Chelsea.

“Nathaniel has had a good 10 days with us working very hard,” Dyche said. “He’s certainly coming up to speed so he’s more in consideration now than what he was.”

Matt Taylor has missed the last two games with an Achilles problem and Burnley are waiting to find out how long he will be absent.

“Matt has had a scan,” Dyche said.

“It’s just rumbling on so we made sure we got on top of that this week and we’re waiting on the results.”

Burnley have also had good news about Vokes, who has been out since March with a cruciate knee ligament injury and is thought to be expected to return near the turn of the year.

“Sam is on course,” Dyche said, while reluctant to speak publicly about a specific return date.

“He had a check-up with the specialist who was very happy with how he’s going and assured us that he’s going in the right direction.

“He told us not to push on and keep the timeline as it is. “We’re happy to do that and the medical team will advise me as and when.”
