DEFENSIVELY I think Burnley are in good shape as the three clean sheets in the Premier League from the first five games testify.

I know we have our two top strikers missing with injuries but the goals are just not coming and that is the problem.

The game against Sunderland was something of a must win for us as they hadn’t won a game either.

The lads were up for the game and had half chances, which they must take against the teams which I think will be struggling to stay in the Premier League.

The next game is West Brom away and they are also fellow strugglers, but had a tremendous result last week against Spurs,.

I’ll take a point away from home, but three are on offer at the Baggies and I hope we have our shooting boots on.

I am not despondent though, once we get one goal or one victory we’ll get the confidence back and move on.

The fans are right behind the club and have been very patient with the performances, which I think are very solid when I recollect what it was like watching them when they were last in the top tier.

Lukas Jutkiewicz, or The Juke, showed in his battle with John O’Shea and Wes Brown last Saturday that a fit Danny Ings could have made a big difference to the scoreline.

It reminded me of my partnership with my fellow columnist Andy Lochhead when he knocked the defenders about and I picked up the crumbs.

Andy was a pleasure to play with but I feel the Juke and Danny could emulate our exploits when they eventually get together.

Danny is out for a few weeks but when he gets together with the Juke I’m quite sure he will pick up the crumbs like I used to do.

He is obviously being missed because last season he was the main man every week, you could almost guarantee he would poach a goal in.

I’ll be happy when he is back fit. I’m not sure about the Juke and Sordell partnership, we need somebody like Danny who is very nippy and can get around the defenders. I think Ings and the Juke will be the partnership.

Sean Dyche is being very positive about the lack of goals but he has got the defence so tight that once the goals start coming we can begin to enjoy our season.

But lets not kid ourselves. This is the best league in the world and for the Clarets fans having the privilege to follow them through thick or thin only makes it more important that we must start getting the wins.

While Burnley continue to make chances the goals will come and with the defence so strong the points will start coming as well.
