WHETHER you thought Saturday’s point against Sunderland – a third successive 0-0 draw – was a good result or not depends on your outlook on life.

Someone who considers themselves a ‘glass half full’ kind of guy or girl – like me – can will most certainly have enjoyed watching us pick up a third clean sheet on the bounce.

Those with more of a ‘glass half empty’ outlook will, quite rightly, point out the fact that we have failed to score now in 533 minutes of play.

Whatever your stance, I’m sure everyone will agree that we’re now starting to find our feet in the Premier League, especially from a defensive point of view.

Bruce Forsyth used to say that points make prizes and while sticking that first three points on the board remains a priority, every single one we pick up at this stage in the season will be invaluable come May.

On Saturday I think we did just enough to shade it and with a little bit of luck me may well have done.

Sunderland offered very little and I have to say I was very disappointed with their lack of ambition.

We on the other hand showed plenty of ambition and the Black Cats’ centre half pairing of John O’Shea and Wes Brown will certainly have known they’d been in a game.

From our point of view, a little bit more composure in front of goal could have seen us snatch a deserved three points.

Marvin Sordell, in for the injured Danny Ings, really should have done better with an early chance but he scuffed his shot and that set the tone of the afternoon for him.

The former Watford striker is a talented lad and I am sure he’ll find some form but it just didn’t happen for him on Saturday.

Strike partner Lukas Jutkiewicz, who was perhaps unlucky not to win at least one penalty, had no such problems and he was superb again up top.

The lad has lots of power and his battles with O’Shea and Brown made very intriguing viewing.

He, like the rest of his teammates, just needed a little more steel in the final third because a goal would have capped a top performance.

Defensively we look magnificent and, until Tom Heaton had to tip a Patrick van Aanholt drive onto the post, we never really looked like conceding.

The problem last time we were in the Premier League was the amount of goals we were conceding.

That isn’t an issue this time around and I know it is clichéd but if you don’t concede you can’t lose.

I just hope we can discover that golden touch in front of goal because our performances certainly deserve more in terms of points.
