ACCRINGTON Stanley boss James Beattie is attempting to sign a goalkeeper on a short-term deal ahead of tomorrow’s home game with Luton Town, with Luke Simpson suspended.

The 19-year-old stopper was sent off in the first half of the Reds’ 4-0 defeat at Shrewsbury Town for a foul on former Stanley striker Andy Mangan.

That leaves Jay Lynch as the club’s only fit and available goalkeeper, with Andrew Dawber sidelined through injury.

“I’m trying to do something short-term. I’m working on a contingency plan to try to bring somebody in though.”

But after making his Football League debut following Simpson’s sending off in midweek, Lynch could make his full debut tomorrow.

“Jay’s been chomping at the bit,” said Beattie of the 21-year-old, who was signed on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers in the summer.

“He comes with good pedigree and he didn’t do himself any harm at all the other night when he came on.”
