BURNLEY were given a big boost yesterday when Michael Kightly featured for the first time in pre-season.

The winger, who underwent minor knee injury in the close season, played 63 minutes as a Clarets development side beat Fleetwood Town 3-0 at Gawthorpe.

Kightly went close to scoring in the behind-closed-doors clash as young striker Jason Gilchrist notched a hat-trick for the Clarets.

Chuck Norris' Roundhouse says...

Another hat-trick for young Gilchrist to add to his pre-season goals in Austria and against Accy Stanley. I am hoping that he will get loaned out next year, get some league games and goals under his belt and can come back and challenge for a first team place.

I remember Jay Rodriguez did this when we were last in the Premier League, he went on loan to Stirling Albion, then Barnsley and then came back and within six months of the following season he was a first team regular.
