MASTER blaster Glenn Stevenson strolled to success to land the 2014 Fosters Golden Cue Large Table final crown.

Stevenson, who last won the title in 1988, was in white-hot form as he overcame another former champion Russell Large 4-0 in front of a bumper crowd at Ighten Leigh Social Club.

Stevenson had to fight hard to win the first frame, though, with Large dominating the opening exchanges.

But when Stevenson cleared the colours it set the tone for the rest of the contest as he stormed to the title.

Stevenson turned up the heat even further in the later rounds, rattling off sparkling breaks of 54, 63, and another 63 to take the crown.

“For Glenn to come back and win the Golden Cue after a 26 year gap was a phenomenal achievement,” said Golden Cue secretary Neil McGovern.

“Although Russell was disappointed, he was first to congratulate Glenn on a fantastic achievement.”

Stevenson also snatched the competition’s highest break prize (63) from Large’s clutches who was ahead going into the final with 57.

The final was watched by Blackburn area champion Jonny Hannon, who will now lock horns with Stevenson for the East Lancashire champion title.

The venue and date for that game, which is sure to attract plenty of interest and a large crowd, will be announced at a later date.

Meanwhile, The Small Table final between big hitters Wayne Cotterill and Steve Almond will be staged at Ighten Leigh this Sunday (12.30pm start).
