THE curtain may have come down on another school year but plans area already under way for September.

The Blackburn Primary Schools Rounders Championship was the last event in the borough calendar which has seen thousands of youngsters compete in a wide range of sports.

Andrw Mercer, school games organiser for Blackburn with Darwen has been delighted with a successful year which has seen schools triumph at borough, county and national level.

And after Lammack Primary School won closing event of the year, Mercer said he was already looking forward to doing it all again.

“This was the last schools competition of a very busy year,” said Mercer. I would like to say a massive thank you to all the teachers and coaches for their hard work this year, preparing their children for the vast variety of competitions that have taken place. “It has been great to see record numbers of young people enjoying and succeeding in sport this year. “We have a busy programme planned for next year and can’t wait to get things up and running in September.”

In the rounders, a total of five schools took part who competed in a league format on two pitches.

Teams consisted of nines players with a maximum of five boys.

Games were played in a format of 30 good balls per team.

And Lammack were crowned champions after winning all of their games.

“It was a cracking afternoon,” added Mercer. “The standard of play was very high especially the batting and some wonderful catches were taken.
