The Commonwealth Games splits opinion it appears.

You only have to look at the thoughts of the Big Debate trio below to get a an idea of what they think.

One believes it is a gimmick, another says England have been a success and hosts Glasgow have done Scotland proud while another sits on the fence.

For me, I have loved every minute of it and I think that largely goes down to the way the people of Scotland, and Glasgow in particular, have embraced the Games.

There were minor concerns that English athletes would be booed every time they entered the sporting arena, given the rivalry north an south of the border.

But there hasn’t been a bit of that. In fact, every athlete appears to have been cheered on – no matter the sport or nation.

The doubters would say some of the world’s big guns weren’t there – namely the Americans – weren’t there but that didn’t matter a jot.

The home nations have had a very successful Games – England topping the medal charts – and if those athletes can inspire the next generation then that can only be a good think.

Yes, the Games get a thumbs up from me.

My only regret is that I didn’t get up there myself.
