LAURA Massaro insists she will have no complaints about Glasgow 2014 despite failing at the second time of asking to secure Commonwealth Games squash gold.

First in Scotland the 30-year-old missed out on the chance to claim the women’s singles title when she lost out to Malaysia’s Nicol David.

Since then the Hoghton star had been putting all of her energy into the women’s doubles competition alongside English partner Jenny Duncalf.

The pair won silver at Delhi 2010 and they set themselves up to better that after reaching the final where they faced India’s Joshana Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal.

But it would prove not to be the happy ending Massaro had been hoping for as the Indians proved too strong to triumph 11-6, 11-8 in 28 minutes.

And, while disappointed not to clinch gold, the reigning world champion revealed a second Glasgow silver with Duncalf had been something to savour.

“I’m disappointed that we didn’t win, but we gave it our all, we’ve had a great week and I’m proud of the silver,” she said.

“India played really well, I felt like we changed our tactics at the end of the first set and caught them a bit by surprise.

“They adapted and then we didn’t adapt back quick enough. That’s doubles, it goes very quickly.

“They have a really good combination of touch and feel on court but they also have quite devastating power.

“That means you are covering a very short ball and a very deep ball within a split second.

“Ultimately that’s probably why the players with that sort of combination are going to be very successful.

“But I’m actually more proud of my performances in the doubles than singles, we don’t play for four years.

“So for us to come together as a pair with very little competition practice and perform like that on the big stage is something to be proud of.”

Massaro has little time for a break now with tournaments coming thick and fast in the coming weeks, although she will look back fondly on her exploits in Glasgow.

“Coming away with two silvers is not quite a gold but it’s every four years and you do you best in the moment and I did that,” she added.

“I’ll probably have a few days off and then we both go to the Malaysian Open and the Hong Kong Open so back to training.”

Fellow English pairing Alison Waters and Emma Beddoes claimed the bronze medal.
