ACCRINGTON Stanley have offered Brett Ormerod a deal to officially rejoin the club.

The 37-year-old has been training with Stanley during pre-season – 17 years after he departed to join Blackpool.

Ormerod was a substitute as the Reds won 2-0 at home to Chorley in their final pre-season game on Friday night, thanks to goals from James Gray and Josh Windass, and has now been offered a contract.

Manager James Beattie is happy to give the forward time to consider the offer.

“I’ve spoken to Brett about an offer, we’re in a position now where we can do that but it will be up to Brett and his family to make that decision whether he accepts it,” Beattie said.

“We’d love to have him here, he’s great around the dressing room, he’s very experienced and he’s definitely got something left to offer on that green stuff outside.”

Stanley open their League Two season at home to Southend on Saturday but still do not have a fit senior keeper on their books, with 19-year-old Andrew Dawber recently picking up an injury.

The Reds are still in talks with former Everton keeper Iain Turner, who featured in the recent friendles with Burnley and Altrincham, while former Oldham and Leicester stopper Luke Simpson played against Chorley and in a behind closed doors game at Birmingham City.

Beattie said: “We were trying to sort something out with Iain, which didn’t come off unfortunately, but Luke came in and did quite well against Chorley.

“I don’t know the situation as yet with Iain but we’ll be looking to add three, four or maybe five players between now and the end of August.”
