TEAMS wishing to take part in an annual pre-season football tournament have until the end of the week enter.

The Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s Pre-Season Football Festival, sponsored by Forbes Solicitors, will be held on the bank holiday weekend of August 23-24.

The weekend festival of football will be for boys teams from under sevens to under 16s and senior men.

Organisers are expecting over 100 teams from across the North West to descend on Pleasington Playing Fields for a tournament that is now regarded as a curtain raiser for the football season ahead.

Saturday sees the under sevens and under eights five compete in five-a-side competitions, with under 12s (nine-a-side) and under 14s and under 15s (both 11-a-side).

On Sunday, it is under nines and under 10s (both seven-a-side), under 11s (nine-a-side) and under 13s, under 16s and senior men (all 11-a-side).

The format for senior games will see the first set of games kick off between 9.30-10am with a half hour break between each group games.

The aim is to have two groups of six with top two from each group will qualify for the semi finals which will take place around 2.30pm with the final scheduled for 3.30pm.

Entry fee is £35 per 7-a-side team, £40 per nine-a-side team, £45 per 11-a-side team and £20 per under sevens and under eights teams.

Cheques should be made payable to Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.
