PADIHAM were the winners of the inaugural ACCROSS Tournament held at Victoria Park over the weekend – an event that included four East Lancashire clubs.

In Saturday’s semi finals, Padiham beat hosts Nelson 2-0 while AFC Darwen came out on top in a seven-goal thriller, eventually beating Ramsbottom United 4-3.

The Rams then beat Nelson 3-1 in the third/fourth place played yesterday before Padiham beat AFC Darwen 3-1 in the final.

Colne played out a useful 2-2 draw at Euxton Villa on Saturday in their preparation for the coming season. On a sweltering afternoon, it was Euxton who took the lead after nine minutes when Andy Leggett stooped to head in at the far post after a series of crosses into the Colne goalmouth. As the Reds looked for an equaliser, Steve Cunningham saw his shot saved by the keeper’s feet after 17 minutes and Danny Boyle had his effort cleared off the line by a defender on the half hour. Colne made the breakthrough after 34 minutes when Jason Hart saw his shot come back off the far post but regained possession to fire home a low shot from close range. And the Reds took the lead on the stroke of half time with a well worked move as Boyle stepped over Hart’s low cross to allow Andy Tinker to score with a well placed shot.

Euxton came back with an equaliser just seven minutes after the interval when Jordan Horner blasted a shot into the roof of the net after Leggett’s penetrating run into the penalty area.

Bacup & Rossendale Borough finalised their pre-season with a narrow 2-1 loss at Evo-Stik side Bridlington Town.

Sam Crook should have given Borough an early lead but fired wide from close range.

And on 20 minutes, Bridlington opened the scoring when a quick free-kick caught BARB off-guard and Will Waudby tucked the ball away. The East Yorkshire side doubled their lead on 56 minutes when Ash Allanson broke beyond the Bacup midfield and chipped into the top right corner.

Bacup pulled one back with 11 minutes remaining when Andrew Gamble found Omar McKenzie who flicked the ball over the goalkeeper and rolled the ball home.

Barnoldswick Town enjoyed a fine 5-1 victory over FC United with five different scorers on target at the Silentnight Stadium.

Chris Simpson, Mark Threlfall, Aaron Hollingdrake, Harry Thomson and Tom Marshall all scored in an impressive victory.
