BLACKBURN Rovers played out a goalless draw at Bradford City in a pre-season friendly this afternoon.

The match was played in sweltering conditions at Valley Parade, with each half stopped briefly for a drinks break, and neither side could break the deadlock.

Rovers lost Rudy Gestede to illness shortly before kick-off, while Chris Brown missed out again through injury.

Jordan Rhodes, Tom Cairney and Craig Conway were rested. The opening period produced few clear cut chances with Alex Baptiste denied by the defence and keeper Jordan Pickford after surging forward from right back, while Chris Taylor had a deflected shot saved.

Rovers brought on Adam Henley at half time for Tommy Spurr, who was making his return from a groin injury.

League One Bradford might have taken the lead early in the second half though when Alan Sheehan put a free header just wide from Billy Clarke’s right wing cross.

Paul Robinson was then called upon to tip Mark Yeates’ powerful 20-yard effort over the bar, before the keeper also had to parry a low drive from Sheehan.

Rovers made a host of changes for the final 20 minutes, handing a trial appearance to former Portsmouth keeper Jamie Ashdown.

But neither team could find a goal, with Luke Varney firing a shot wide.

Rovers: Paul Robinson (Jamie Ashdown 72); Alex Baptiste (Darragh Lenihan 72), Grant Hanley (Yann Songo’o 72), Matt Kilgallon (Jack O’Connell 72), Tommy Spurr (Adam Henley 46); Chris Taylor (Connor Mahoney 72), Jason Lowe (John O’Sullivan 72), Lee Williamson (Hyuga Tanner 72), Corry Evans (Dean Rittenberg 72), Ben Marshall (Luke Varney 63); Josh King (David Dunn 72).

Bradford: Jordan Pickford (Matt Urwin 46); Stephen Darby, Rory McArdle, Andrew Davies (Christopher Routis 78), Alan Sheehan (Niall Heaton 88); Raffaele De Vita (Mark Yeates 44), Gary Liddle (James Meredith 72), Billy Knott (Jason Kennedy 59), Matthew Dolan (Mo Shariff 84); James Hanson (Lewis Clarkson 68), Billy Clarke (Oliver McBurnie 68). Subs not used: Achille Campion, Reggie Lambe.

Referee: Andy Haines.

He's up in Accy, having fun. Accy 0 Burnley 1.
They will be busy celebrating a great win away from home against the mighty Accrington Stanley. They will be on here soon enough bragging about how good they are and how they had a better result than the Rovers.
Let's just let them have their moment of glory, they will be few and far between this coming season.

Yeh but what did we do there mate? Huffing and puffing today and heat affects both sides. Glad I didn't go as GB has his work cut out if this is the shape. Poor so far if we want a top 6 finish is my view

Burnley were no better today than Rovers in midweek. They had the ball in the net twice but were ruled offside. They only managed to score after Stanley made wholsale changes after about 70mins

It would have been very difficult to play football in the heat today. Plus it looks like they used a set of players that bears no relationship to the one that will run out on the first match of the season.

Well yet another underwhelming performance, but I suppose signing League One Sh!t like Brown is just showing the lack of ambition Bowyer has. I noticed our neighbours managed to beat Accy today, shame we can't even beat League 2 strugglers, but I guess we'll be playing them in a league game sooner or later. TIME TO BOYCOTT, YET AGAIN

Decent workout today and nothing more. Result is irrelevant but the plus has to be a clean sheet after conceding two at Stanley. A watertight defence will be key this season as up front the goals will come given the quality of the front line and now we have real quality in midfield to supply the front men. We need to look at how the dingles played last year, a consistent 11 and conceding very few. Ings et al up front were not the only factor, it was also the defence that got the points on the board. The only plus about friendlies means the season isn't too far away so good luck to Rovers, the mighty Stanley and even those old dingles, Saturday just isn't the same close season so let's have a belter for East Lancs.

"A decent work out" "results mean nothing". I disagree. In one sense yes there is nothing tangible to gain, ie points, passage to the next round of a cup, but results breed confidence, and shows that what's being practiced in training is working.
Look at Ings for example, last pre-season he was on fire and took that form with him into the league campaign, the rest is history.

Anyway it doesn't look like Bowyer was bothered anbout the 'victory' as he played without a recognised striker until 72 minutes then put Dunny on and seven of the young lads. A good work out I think.

You have to understand this is Dave's pre-season too, note that he's taking it easy in these warm-up comments, not using punctuation and not actually 'shouting' his pathetic little mantra.

When we get into the serious business he will be stepping up a gear and embarrassing himself completely, as per usual.

They can't score if they don't play, you plank.
They cant score even if they do play. League 1 looks nearer every passing day.
League 1 is where GB is heading if he can't find a striking partnership that looks like it can score
Bowyer should leave now whilst his reputation is intact after this miserable pre-season. No promotion – which is a certainty – and its gone with wind, or the monsoon in this case.

Yeh but GB is no Douche and that's the problem. Bonleh were lucky but our luck is out unless you've been drinking meths?

Well yet another underwhelming performance, but I suppose signing League One Sh!t like Brown is just showing the lack of ambition Bowyer has. I noticed our neighbours managed to beat Accy today, shame we can't even beat League 2 strugglers, but I guess we'll be playing them in a league game sooner or later. TIME TO BOYCOTT, YET AGAIN
Only an IDIOT would create a username that suggests he supports the team of his rivals.

Step forward Ewood_NO_Mark; you win the IDIOT of the week competition.
And believe me, that takes some doing on here.
Bit rich is that. As I've said before, your username is Stone Island, which is an outdated brand that a 12 year old chav begs his Mummy to buy. So by my reckoning, you are probably a 12 year old chav, but if you're not, then you need to have a good hard look at yourself young man. Now run along, it's getting past your bedtime.

PS - You are not a football hooligan, you're more of a keyboard warrior

League 1 fanbase? That's a tad excessive, there are better supported sides in the Conference.

Lets not forget that they have sold a massive 13,500 season tickets for this season. From what I have heard we have sold more shirts in the last week or so than they have ST holders.

Pathetic when you think about it, a PL club with just 13,500 fans.

Yeh but take a minut what will we get next season? Cant see us getting anywhere near the dingles. Not with the sort of GB tactics. Glad I didn't go sounds garbage
