A BLACKBURN opticians’ has been ‘bowled over’ after more than 60 of the town’s avid Crown Green Bowls players came together for the popular annual Specsavers Cup.

Held at the Green Park Bowling Green, the event saw players pit their wits against each other for the chance to win a cash prize.

Alongside the sporting fun, there was also a charity raffle and cake sale in aid of the Derian House Children’s Hospice.

The winner of the competition was Frank O’Neill from Blackburn.

Stuart Ingleby, director of the two Specsavers stores in Lord Street Mall and the Morrisons superstore, congratulated Frank and thanked the community for its outstanding support.

He said: “What a fantastic event. The round robin competition, which saw players paired up for three games each, was as competitive as ever and we certainly saw some excellent players taking part.

“A huge well done to Frank who bowled a fantastic game and thank you to everyone who took part or entered the charity raffle for an amazing cause.

“We’re delighted to have sponsored and lent our name to this great competition once again so on behalf of Specsavers and all our players, I would like to say a big thank you to the Green Park club for their hospitality.

‘Aside from the competition, the delicious cake sale and charity raffle on behalf of the Derian House Children’s Hospice raised a fantastic £225.’
