Blackburn Rovers sign Alex Baptiste on loan from Bolton Wanderers – and agree new Markus Olsson contract

Lancashire Telegraph: Alex Baptiste has signed for Rovers on loan from Bolton Alex Baptiste has signed for Rovers on loan from Bolton

BLACKBURN Rovers have signed versatile defender Alex Baptiste on a season-long loan from Championship rivals Bolton Wanderers – and tied left-back Markus Olsson down to a new contract.

Sweden international Olsson, 26, has put pen to paper on a one-year deal with Rovers and is the second player, after midfielder David Dunn, to commit his future to the club today.

Baptiste, meanwhile, will spend the whole of the 2014-15 campaign at Ewood Park after sealing a loan switch from the Whites.

The 28-year-old, who made 190 appearances for Blackpool before moving to Bolton on a free transfer last summer, can play anywhere across the back four.

Baptiste scored the Whites’ consolation goal in their 4-1 drubbing at Rovers last August.

Baptise is exactly what we need Matt. Versatile, experienced and hopefully got enough about him to bring a bit more maturity to Hanleys game.

As for Olsson, just not good enough for me - too lightweight and just a headless chicken (no pun lol) - maybe GB thinks he can develop his game. I agree with you that we should try and keep Rochina & give him one last chance to prove himself cos his talent is undeniable - if he just learnt to know when to release the ball!

I with you on this one big boy, I expect a centre half to weigh in with at least 70 goals a season. If only we had someone like say Jordan Rhodes - oh hang on a minute.

Personally I'd liked us to have signed 33 year old injury ravaged Rovers reject Steven Reid from WBA - his goal record is a staggering 0 goals in 2 seasons.

Marvin Sordell would've been another option. He's scored a truly remarkable 8 goals in 3 seasons.

He scored the same number of goals last season as your entire back four. That's right, 4 goals in a combined 166 appearances.

In other news...

Olsson hadn't impressed me since his arrival, but he did play well at the end of last season when he played at left-back. He's been signed as a squad player though so it makes sense for Bowyer to stick with what he knows. Baptiste is a good signing too, although it throws some doubt onto Bowyer's team selection next season. I don't think he's signed Baptiste to sit on the bench so I expect him to start at right-back. Therefore, will Lowe get the nod ahead of Evans in midfield? I hope not as the latter is a better all-round player.

Welcome to Baptistie, I think GB got tracing him from last season when he got free with Blackpool and now he realize the GB's request is the correct one and he decided join with the club forever......lol.

He is strong and right full back with a captain quality player. Hope he keep the fitness for this season and move permanent to play for the top fight again in his carrier with Blackburn Rovers club.

Markus Ollson is getting better in his left wing to left full back position. he is quick and getting strong in the channels. He should avoid shooting by him self from leftside, allow him to pass the ball to striker neatly. (ask him to watch Germany vs Brazil match first 30 mts) every winger should play like that in the box). This pre-season preparation this is the only advice to Ollson and make 10 assist for Rhodes/Gestede.

So, we get a transfer ban but we've already accepted that but continue to build the squad regardless. They can only ban us once and possibly fine us but it looks like Venkys have already accepted that as well. Once we've got the squad we want what harm can a fransfer ban do? It only lasts for one season and then we start again. Give it up you're a fool.

I can't believe we've offered Jordan Rhodes a new contract. In all the time he has been at Rovers he has NEVER saved a single penalty.

Dunn should also never have been offered a contract as he has never even got into the second week of Wimbledon.

And Ollson is another one who should be on his way never even made the Boat race team for Oxford OR Cambridge.

Having looked though the players list it would appear that the Rovers have approx. 80 players on their books not including the ladies team.
I would think that sufficient for our needs embargo or no embargo. We will always able to raise a team.

It sure is big boy but we've seen all this before with the likes of Swindon, Barnsley, Oldham, Watford, Bradford and of course another former Division 4 club Burnley.

It just goes to show miracles do happen and clubs that are of League 1 standard in terms of facilities and fan base - like Burnley, now and again get a decent manager, a few decent players who have a season of none/very little injuries/suspensions and find themselves with an almost comical chance to play in a league they are clearly well out of their depth in.

That said, I think it's great for supporters of your age group that have never seen any real success or trophies get the chance to play the big clubs.

PS - When's Jordan Rhodes signing for Norwich?

Thanks in advance

I can't believe we've offered Jordan Rhodes a new contract. In all the time he has been at Rovers he has NEVER saved a single penalty.

Dunn should also never have been offered a contract as he has never even got into the second week of Wimbledon.

And Ollson is another one who should be on his way never even made the Boat race team for Oxford OR Cambridge.

Feeling stupid yet Seagull. I'll be back with more later.
I think Joe Hart should never play for England again. Why was he in the World Cup squad? His goal scoring record at international record is appalling! No wonder we went out at the group stages.

Poor old Seagull, how embarrassing!
I'd be delighted if Baptiste puts four in the net for us this season. Not a bad return for a central defender/full back. Seems Mr Seagull thinks he's a striker. Lol.

here's a clue why he has only got for goals
BLACKBURN Rovers have signed versatile defender Alex Baptiste
I just assumed he was a striker given the splurge of has been journeymen strikers that Blackburn have been scooping up with open arms.
He has the kind of scoring ratio one would expect from a Blackburn striker.

Our "has bin"signings to date have at least been on par with your own but you are supposed to be building a Premier League squad????
What's all that about.

IMO the club and Venkys are prepared for ffp and will accept the ban and fine like the other 70% of Championship teams if it comes off.
Meanwhile we're almost there as far as the squad is concerned so the ban isn't going to make much difference anyway.

Not just any old striker, no sir, the kind of striker that Blackburn would be spunking themselves senseless to have in their limited talentless ranks. He fits the criteria to a tee. Wasn't it only 6/7 months ago you were clearing out the deadwood to trim your wage bill in a futile attempt to fall in line with FFP? And now you're filling up the has been bin again paying off contracts worth millions and giving players contact extentions worth around an extra million a year. I really do fear for you come the 1st of January 2015. Don't say I didn't tell you so.[/p]
Can you explain to us all how you know we are dishing out"contracts worth millions" please. Or is it just more dingle bullsh it? Our "has bin"signings to date have at least been on par with your own but you are supposed to be building a Premier League squad???? What's all that about. IMO the club and Venkys are prepared for ffp and will accept the ban and fine like the other 70% of Championship teams if it comes off. Meanwhile we're almost there as far as the squad is concerned so the ban isn't going to make much difference anyway. Harwoodstblue

I'm happy to be back thank you for your warm welcome keanouto. By the way don't you think it's about time you changed your name? I know how you shoeless folk like to live in the past but it's a bit old now.

....made a pratt of myself? Not in the slightest. I'm STILL convinced he's a striker, he has to be with those credentials. And one of your better ones at that.you see your comedy club is so upside down and inside out that it's perfectly feasible that your players play in totally different positions. Good old GB will have him up front at some point that's for sure. Maybe against Scunthorpe in round one of the capital one cup. Let me know how you get on won't you, premier league teams don't enter that one until the later stages.

Try telling seagull that. He seems to be of the opinion that a ban under FFP means the club cannot play any games or continue in business. As far as I am aware it only means we cannot import any more players than we already employ on the first of January. Well we have 80 odd players, so I think we will be able to raise a team.

I don't need to change my username as I don't get humiliated every time I post like you and your sidekick. If you're going to be a troll make sure you get your facts right before you do.

I am afraid you are going to have to admit you didn't know who he was despite the fact he has played in both the Premiership and the Championship for the last few years. If you actually went to games you would have seen him play in fact.

Back on topic this looks like a fairly decent signing, cheap and versatile. Still need another centre half though.

Not sure about Babtiste - he was giving ycgoals away at Bolton from bad defending and he was conceding penalties like they were going out of fashion! Expect a few other woops'd rejects through the Ewood and Bucket comedy club doors before the season starts.
Maybe we should be looking at signing 33 year old injury ravaged has-beens from WBA?

Are you drunk again seagull? Been in't Miiiiiners all day drinking that cheap watered down bitter again? You'll regret it later when you're sh*tting like a seagull in your half mast corduroys.....

Absolutely unbelievable!!![/p]
Welcome back Seagull ready for your next pearl if wisdom. Made a bit of a prat of yourself didn't you ? Can you explain the "4 in 39" comment ? Don't really follow football do you ?[/p]
Let me know how you get on won't you, premier league teams don't enter that one until the later stages.[/p]
Still need another centre half though.[/p]
You're right I don't know much about the lad which is why I assumed he was a striker given his poor ratio and other attributes which identify him as the type of striker you go for. He's not good enough for Bolton but he'll do for you. That sums your shower up perfectly. That's it you just keep adding to the Trampwood wage bill, after all FFP doesn't apply to you does it?

4 goals in 39 games for Bolton, another inspirational signing.
GB for England.

Lol.
Indeed.

Mr Seagull is rather conspicuous by his absence today.

Can't think why...

Lol.
You spoke too soon Edward.
Ha ha.

Whatever you say princess. You really made a twunt of yourself here Steven. Methinks the lady doth protest too much!

To be fare, you shouldn't feel too bad about it, poor harmless dooper claret in his various guises humiliates himself on these pages on a daily basis. I almost feel sorry for him.

Almost.

At least you've got some decent banter about you, he's just a harmless runt.

Another no-mark League One standard player joining the ranks.

This sorry shambles is without a doubt heading down. A very, very weak squad of poor Championship/League One players.
'League 1 players'

Gestede, won league with Cardiff, Benin international
Rhodes, 25 goals a season even when he had a poor team behind him, Scotland international
Cairney, promotion with hull, best CM in the championship
Evans, promotion with hull, Ireland international
Marshall, very good championship standard,
King, Man U youth system, Norway international
Conway, promotion with Cardiff
Hanley, prem experience, Scotland international
Kilgallon, premier league/good championship standard
Spurr, good championship standard
Baptiste, good championship standard
Robinson, vast premier league pedigree, former England number one, considered for World Cup 2014
David Dunn, your worst nightmare
Jason Lowe, u21 international
Chris Brown, Doncaster championship player of the year
And yet you're a Championship club and Burnley are Premier League.

It's a funny old game init.
Premier league, not for long. If rumours are to be believed, a lot of property is being bought up in Dubai, amongst other places. That 120million you've been banging on about won't go far over there. There's going to be riots down at turd when it gets out. Watch this space, you heard it here 1st. Time for another name change I think. You and your other alter egos have made complete idiots of yourselves, literally nothing you have predicted has happened. We are still strengthening irrespective of FFP and you bunch of knuckle draggers are crying to your mums about it because you'd pinned all your hopes and dreams on it crippling us. Now Rhodes has signed, you've nothing left, you've wasted the last 3 years of your life.....you couldn't make it up hahahahahaha.
Still premier league though you bel1end. Might be for one season, might be more, but for now you are inferior. Pipe down.
Lols. Caught one 🎣

Petty name calling? Really? Touchy this evening aren't we? 🍼

Idiot, we weren't even favourites for promotion last year, but we did it. If you read those things then it looks like you are staying down this season yet again.
