Yes, you are reading this correctly – England are the new World Cup champions after winning a penalty shoot-out!

While England's invitation to the greatest football party on the planet ended in disaster after only two games in Brazil last month, the Three Lions collected the main prize at a Blackburn-based World Cup Festival.

Close to 150 children competed in the AHF FC World Cup Festival at Blackburn's Soccerdome as the youngsters recreated all the thrills, spills and excitement of the South America football fiesta.

But it was England’s number nine Yusuf Bargit who held his nerve from the penalty spot to clinch a dramatic victory for England over Brazil in the final – following wins over Italy, Holland and Germany in the Year One and Two category.

AHF FC club secretary Yasir Sufi said: “Who knows, in the distant future England may actually stand a chance of winning the World Cup with the talent being developed at grass roots clubs like AHF FC.”

Yasir added: “It was a memorable day with children, parents, volunteers and supporters all playing a big part.”

In the Year Three and Four Stage, Argentina won the big prize while Brazil took the honours in Year Five and Six.

The children were presented with trophies, certificates, sweet and noisy vuvuzela’s to celebrate a memorable day. Families also enjoyed a BBQ, thanks to the event sponsor, Blackburn-based KQF.
