Tommy Hannan is the new Blackburn With Darwen Snooker League Singles Champion.

In a superb final at Rishton Golf Club Tommy overcame Baz O’Kane 3-1.

In the best final for years both players gave their all.

It could have been so different though. O’Kane took a rather tentative opener 49-17 and looked to be on his way to a 2-0 lead when he landed plum on the black to open the remaining reds in the next.

The reds opened beautifully but the black jawed to let Hannan get back to the table.

After a couple of safety shots each Hannan grabbed a half chance and rolled in the colours to level the match.

Frame three saw Hannan hit top form as he capitalized on a loose safety to compile a break of 52.

It looked as though Tommy would clear the table but the tricky last red just rolled across the jaws of the middle pocket.

With the score at 65-0 O’Kane conceded to give his opponent a 2-1 lead. In the next Hannan showed what a classy performer he is. After Tommy broke off O’Kane looked to have found a good length with his safety reply but Hannan picked off a loose red that let him in for a fantastic total clearance of 95 to take frame and match.

Both players contributed to a fabulous final and Tommy said afterwards “If Baz hadn’t miss that black I'm sure he would have gone on to take the match 3-0.”

O’Kane was equally gracious in defeat, complimenting Tommy on some marvellous play. The watching crowd were the real winners though, it/s not often that both players can perform to such a high standard in a final.

The final of the Ben Dickinson Memorial Pairs was a different sort of match altogether.

Ami Dippolito and Andy Allen from Feniscowles ran out easy 3-0 winners against Lee Entwistle and Simon Ashe representing the Fox & Hounds.

The opening frame was a tactical affair with both teams desperate to get off to a good start.

It was nip and tuck all the way and it was no surprise when it went down to a re-spotted black.

It was former singles champ Dippolito who got the first chance and he took it well, potting a nice long black to put his team in front.

The second frame was much the same as the first, some wonderful single ball potting interspersed with some horrendous misses from both teams. Once again it was Dippolito and Allen who held on at the end taking the frame 45-34.

The third frame had it all, outrageous flukes, 3 doubles in a row from Ashe, some lovely pots from Allen as well as the by now expected misses.

Again it was Dippolito who took full advantage of his opponents mistakes to run out the last few balls to take the frame 63-37.
