IT WAS a day to remember for the talented girls from St Cuthbert’s Primary School who were flying the flag for Blackburn and Darwen at the North West cricket finals.

The Darwen youngsters joined 26 teams from across the region for the finals which were hosted by Unsworth Cricket Club, Bury.

Teams were divided into six leagues with the winner of each one and the two best runners-up progressing through to the quarter finals.

St Cuthbert’s were placed in a league with the winners of the Liverpool, Blackpool, Tameside and Wyre heats.

The super Saints won all of their group games to progress to the quarter finals.

In the quarter finals the girls were drawn against the eventual winners Orrell.

This was a close game but the girls just missed out on the Semi Finals.

“The school is extremely proud of the girls’ achievement,” said teacher Gary Lloyd.

“Seven out of the eight girls had never played before the year so to get to this level is an unbelievable achievement.

The team got to meet England Ladies international Kate Cross.
