FENISCOWLES Primary School cricket coach Mark Hadfield said it was one of his proudest moments as a teacher after seeing his side narrowly miss out on a place in the Lancashire finals.

The school were one of 31 regional winners who reached the county finals which were held at Northern Cricket Club in Crosby, Liverpool.

Feniscowles booked their place in the finals after a near faultless display of cricket to win the Blackburn and Darwen Kwik Cricket Festival the previous week at Darwen Cricket Club where they finished with a 100 per cent winning record.

And Fenny took that winning habit to Northern with them as they won all of their group games against winners of Salford, North Trafford and Tameside regions to progress to the quarter finals.

And that proved to be something of a local derby as they were up against Ribble Valley winners Salesbury in what proved to be a tense affair with Feniscowles managing to win by eight runs thanks to a wicket maiden in the final over by Zac Procter.

That set up a semi final clash with Wigan winners Orrell St James. After a poor batting performance, Fenny bowlers turned on the style but could not guide their team to victory as the Orrell – who went on to win the competition – won by 21 runs.

“It was a brilliant day with the boys performing amazingly well,” said Hadfield.

“It was one of the proudest moments as a teacher.”
