No wonder Paula Walker calls her team-mate the Little Pocket Rocket – and if she doesn’t, then she should!

Rebekah Wilson, all 5ft 2inch of her and the un-East Lancs half of the Great Britain two man women’s bobsleigh team was in the area recently to inspire the next generation of sporting stars.

Rebekah is part of the Sport for Champions team who visit schools, set them fitness challenges, hold inspiring assemblies and give them the ‘if I can do it, you can to it’ team talk.

Rebekah is the perfect example. A sprinter talented enough to compete in the Junior World Championships but not tall enough to make it ‘big’ in the sport at senior level.

Then came the call from Paula and the rest, they say, is history.

She became a junior bobsleigh world champion and then went on to compete in the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

I know Paula pretty well from the days when she first started out in the sport.

Last week was my first chat with Rebekah after her visit to St Cuthbert’s in Darwen.

Just from our phone conversion you could tell how driven she was and there is no-one better to help inspire our little ones make it big in sport!
