DEFENDING champions Blackburn Eagles continue to lead the way but it’s tight at the top of the Sheths Bathrooms Blackburn and District Amateur Cricket League A Division with just seven points separating the top four teams.

The Eagles have won seven of their eight fixtures so far to lead surprise package Blackburn Knight Riders, who were promoted last season, by four points.

However, last season’s runners-up Blackburn Lions remain in the mix and will continue to do so if they can repeat their performances of the weekend.

Asif Mahmood was the star player of the weekend as his impressive knocks against Hargreaves and All Stars sees them remain in contention.

Victory over the All Stars, one of the four teams in the title hunt, was the perfect revenge for the Lions who had lost their first encounter.

Muneeb Alam was the match winning for the All Stars on that occasion, taking six wickets.

But he was nulified second time around with Waqar Ali opening his shoulders in the 29th over to hit Muneeb for 16 - including a match-winning six off the last ball.

However, Waqar had to play the support role to Mahmood who scored 79 against Hargreaves on Saturday before weighing in with a vital 36 runs against the All Stars.

The Lions are now in third place with 43 points, two behind Blackburn Knight Riders and one ahead of All Stars.

In the B Division, Boom Boom continue to lead the way with an 100 per cent record having won their first seven matches.

They hold a healthy 11 point lead over Elite Blinds and Enjoy XI who both have 38 points.
