Slade Power gave trainer Eddie Lynam a G1 sprint double with victory in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes on the last day of Royal Ascot and BetVictor make the speedster the 7/2 favourite to follow-up in the July Cup at Newmarket.

Whilst perhaps not of that ilk just yet, David Lanigan’s Polybus (8.10) looks a sprinter with a smart future and will take all of the beating in Windsor’s feature six furlong handicap. The gelding was unfancied on debut at Newbury but clearly learnt from the experience when bolting up over course and distance earlier this month.

The yard have been quiet thus far this season, Polybus the stable’s only turf winner in 2014, however the Lanigan team look to be turning the corner and he looks potentially chucked in from an opening mark of 84.

James Doyle and Roger Charlton combined to win the opener on the corresponding card last year and they can land second of two opening maidens with Old Guard (7.10). The gelding runs in the maiden over the mile and finished an excellent third on debut in April, behind the smart pair of Battle Command and Voyageofdiscovery over seven furlongs.

He should come on for the run and being a half-brother to the stable’s star filly Thistle Bird, should have a bright future ahead of him. Old Guard can pay an almighty compliment to Clive Cox’s Voyageofdiscovery (7.40) in the mile handicap.

The gelding was ahead of the Charlton inmate at Warwick but unable to reach Peter Chapple-Hyam’s Battle Command over seven furlongs, bettering that when second on his debut in handicap company when stepped up to a mile on Saturday.

Providing there are no ill-effects from being turned out again after two years, he has to go close.

Potentate heads to Chepstow bidding the shed the maiden tag at the belated fourth attempt however Richard Hannon’s colt has plenty of quirks and a chance can be taken on New Identity (3.40) who shaped with plenty of promise on debut at Bath last month.

The Rock of Gibraltar colt was slowly into stride but stayed on well in the closing stages, making eye-catching late headway in a really likeable manner. He should improve for the run and can give trainer Dennis Coakley a fourth winner of the season with Pat Cosgrave doing the steering.

Jamie Spencer is another jockey bound for South Wales riding Ed Dunlop’s Qatar Racing filly Big Boned however Frangipanni (4.10) can give trainer Roger Charlton a double in the seven furlong handicap.

The filly battled gamely to win on her handicap beau at Lingfield and was unlucky when finishing fifth attempting to follow-up from a 6lb higher mark. The switch to turf and step up in trip can see her in a better light, bidding to give George Baker further success, fresh off the back of Royal Ascot success.

There’s all-weather action from Lingfield and before heading to Windsor this evening James Doyle arrives to ride Amanda Perrett’s Telefono (4.25) for boss Prince Khalid Abdullah. The Three Valley’s colt has been a runner-up in maidens at Newbury and Kempton and with the yard in good form, should be able to make it third time lucky.
