Swimming: Olympic ace Nick passes on his pool know-how
A GROUP of swimming teachers at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School got a coaching course to remember double Olympic medalist Nick Gillingham popped in.
Gillingham, who was also a former World, European and Commonwealth champion, delivered a Modern Swimming Lessons course at the QEGS swimming pool.
The purpose of the course was to condense years of practice and training to perfect technique and timing and share that experience in a single session.
“There was certainly plenty of food for thought for the teachers who enjoyed a wonderful opportunity to learn from such a talented swimmer,” said Paul Oliver from QEGS.
The teachers could not have had a beat course leader.
As well as his medals from all the major championships, Gillingham also set three world, 10 European, nine Commonwealth and 17 British records in the breaststroke.
He represented Great Britain for 13 years and held the national record for 24 years. He ranks as one of the most consistent championship performers British Swimming has ever produced.
He held three consecutive European titles, Commonwealth and World gold medals combined with World records and Olympic silver and Bronze medals in an amazing seven year run from 1988 to 1994.
He is also a World Masters Champion and record holder.
