Turf chief looking forward to fixtures

Lancashire Telegraph: Mike Garlick Mike Garlick

BURNLEY have the mental strength to cope with tough times in the Premier League, according to co-chairman Mike Garlick.

The Clarets’ top flight adventure will draw closer on Wednesday morning with the announcement of the fixtures for the new Premier League season, which kicks off on August 16.

That is something Garlick is relishing but he has warned that the season will be more mentally challenging for the club than the Clarets’ promotion campaign.

“I think we know that whatever happens we won’t win every game,” Garlick said.

“Of course we will go into every game trying to win, but we can’t expect that. There might be times when we lose three or four games. Most teams do in that division.

“Everyone at the club – players and fans – has to be prepared for that.

“But we have a good unit and mentally strong players.”

Burnley fans will be perusing the fixture list in great detail on Wednesday but the Clarets enjoyed success in the Championship because of Sean Dyche’s strict ‘game by game’ approach – looking no further than the next match at all times.

Garlick says that will again be the mantra in the Premier League.

“I’m looking forward to the fixture list and we’ll approach it the same way as last season,” he said.

“I know people will be looking at the big games when the fixtures come out, but we will look at who we play on August 16 and keep the same mantra.

“We won’t overthink it, we’ll approach that first match in the right way and take it from there.

“We will take it one step at a time.”

Following their promotion to the top flight, Burnley have received a bye in the League Cup and will not be in the first round draw tomorrow morning.

They will enter the competition in the second round on the week commencing August 25.

"Its all relative".... a summary of your entire sexuaI history in three simple words.

Of course you disregard the point of the post, that being that we are a member of the elite 20 clubs in the country whilst you will be struggling to keep your heads above water in the 2nd tier for a third successive financially draining season during which a transfer embargo will bring about the sale of your key players for below market value as the Blackburn Rovers debt clock ticks over the £70million mark and Venky's start to get twitchy about bailing out...

A couple of early defeats and the morons at Ewood Park will once again turn on the manager and Bowyer will be out before Christmas leaving you will the job of recruiting another manager willing to be paid a pittance to guide you through the most humiliating and degrading period of your ailing clubs history.

I'm pretty sure I know who's position you'd rather be in.

Little Claret- "Its all relative".... a summary of your entire sexuaI history in three simple words. how does that make sense?

I know it must be difficult for you to see the dingles in the top division and all you can focus on is your love for Rovers, but you must keep focused, its an important time in your clubs history for Christ's sake!!!!

Don't blow it this time, keep the manager don't allow him to jump ship to a better club again and go tumbling down again!

Being a Rovers fan its been great to see us in the top division season after season but now its your time fight for East lancs!!

In an ideal world you would but its not going to happen realistically is it? Burnley will be relegated (probably with the lowest point total on record) but at least you will try.

Get used to it now so it wont hurt so much come May

Ha ha ha is your best banter 'I can't wait to watch MOTD'???

How pathetically predictable, so you are going to watch your rivals play every week on MOTD are you? and you 'can't wait' can you?? Ha ha ha your banter is as weak as the mid-table Second Division side you support from the comfort of your armchair - if Ba5tard Rovers were playing in my back garden I would close the curtains, and yet you are going to tune in every Saturday specifically to watch Burnley? Do you miss the Premier League that much? Ha ha ha ha ha.

Are you one of the 15 thousand missing fans who are waiting for Premier League football to come back around (Which it never ever will pmsl)? Or are you 'protesting' about Venkys?

Blackburn being owned on and off the pitch by Burnley.

Enjoy scratching around for free transfers and League One rejects this coming season while you are plumbing the depths of the Second Division.

Poor old Blackburn, now that the 35 year jizz-stained comfort blanket has gone you have no workable banter.

I assume that by this response you have given up on your pathetic attempts to be funny and rip the **** out of your Premier League bigger and better neighbours?

Your mam appreciates the extra digits too, but for a different reason.

So can we have some more of those predictions? Or are you finished now?

It's quite funny how uneasy it makes you when we point out the futility of your efforts on these message boards, I find it hilarious that you get all panicky because you've simply got nothing left.

Feel free to move along now and try another message board, perhaps look for a support website for others like yourself who are suffering from a masochistic self-defeating personality disorder? Its time for you to join the ranks of the tail-between-the-leg
s crew of former arrogant Blackburn Rovers supporters, wallowing in their own shame too embarrassed to post on here anymore. Pitiful creatures.

Here's my prediction...

I do love observing the Rovers' stumpies' predictions. You know, they are not a quick study are they, these inbreds? Always the same. Endless doom and gloom And they always come up short. And, I know you won't believe this, but they always predict happiness and success for Rovers. And they come up short again.

Blackburn Rovers, in free fall for the enjoyment of the sane and reasonable.

Don't forget Leon Best who likes to take to Twitter criticising Gary Bowyer and the 'Blackburn six' - those transferlisted players who would rather sit on their fat pay packets and train with the kids and not feature for the first team.

My they are getting giddy in Dingleland as the new season approaches. Burnley's preparations for the new season are well underway. Last season's squad of 18 has been reduced after the Canadian ditched them to go to Birmingham. No signings to date other than being linked with a West Brom benchwarmer and a couple of lads from Derby. Ings yet to sign a new deal and heavily linked with Southampton.
A club that rips off its own loyal supporters in a time of austerity by charging £700 to watch their glory season in a relegation dog fight, playing for a 0-0 draw every week. Should ensure that crowds are around the 16,000 mark as long as they give away support the entire cricket field stand and its luxurious facilities to enjoy. Last time Burnley gave away 4,000 season tickets so they sold out from time to time but they weren't going to make that mistake a second time.

Still some prefer to spend their time fixated with Blackburn Rovers. Suppose its to be expected given that for those under the age of 45 being above Blackburn is an unknown phenomenon.

Keiran Trippier has signed a contract extension. Your thought on this are?

Danny Ings is currently under contract and is expected to commit to a longer deal, as is Sean Dyche. Both have been very vocal in their love of the club and plans for the future with Burnley FC.

Meanwhile, Blackburn Rovers are nervously awaiting the FFP sanctions which will place the club under a humiliating and financially devastating transfer ban for what could be several seasons as the clubs management seek to get rid of those high earners who will ultimately cripple this ailing mess of a club. BUT NO ONE WANTS THEM! LOL.

You are in the Championship. Blackburn Rovers, always running out of someone else's money.

Regarding all you write above - so what? However rubbish and tiny you claim us to be, we have won a place in the Premier league. We earned it, we didn't buy it.

You are in the Championship. Blackburn Rovers, always running out of someone else's money.
Who decides whether success is 'earned' or 'bought'? Bitter and resentful Burnley supporters who know that they will never emulate Blackburn's achievements?

I can't see Blackburn Rovers... where are they?
If you look real close, they are engraved on the PL Trophy,
don't mention it
Nope, I've checked again and I still can't see them in the Premier League... something strange seems to have happened, why aren't they in the Premier League? Did they get relegated from the Premier League?
Yes and they left 15000 fans there.
15,000.......about the same number of home fans you'll get for a 'Premier' league game every other week......
Deary me........
How many home fans will Jokeburn Rovers get on a Premier League game next season?

What's that, NONE?

Ha ha ha
How would you live that one down when the club down the road in the Chumpionship get better home support than you?
It will probably happen and you know it.
Deary me.......

LOL.

League One awaits.
Love of the club? You couldn't make this up!

Dyche was unceremoniously dumped by Watford after one season and Burnley were the only club in the championship to take a punt on him. After what can only be described as a miracle in hauling a club like Burnley anywhere near the top flight, Dyche's stock will never be higher. He doesn't love Burnley you fool, he works for Burnley and like everyone else who passes through that club he will move on to better things as soon as an offer comes in.

Ings has made the breakthrough to England Under 21, and to my knowledge has yet to say anything which suggests he is planning on being around long term. Only the usual nonsense you get from want-away players. He'll probably wait until the last minute of the window to see if someone will have him and only if not then sign a new deal at Burnley.

Perhaps you could explain what a 'financially devastating transfer ban' is given that administration has supposedly been just around the corner for the last 3 years. Nor will it be particularly humiliating when half the league will be in for the same treatment.

Doing what we did last season on three shillings and a banana skin exceeds all you've ever done. Incidentally, your two titles won before the first world war are the same status as the Prem. And you bought those as well - Laurie Cotton's money. When you have the same cash as the rest of us you win jack - the 81 years between 1914 and 1995 for example. So don't tell me that a cash injection way, way, way out of proportion to your turnover or asset base had nothing to do with it - it did! Thus it was purchased. If you get promoted on sod all, its earned. There's the difference.

Now you have to operate in more straightened circumstances, where are you?

Hi Bob, our opening day defeat looms large on the horizon, I can see nothing but utter dejection by Christmas. I hope we don't go down with a record lowest points score, we are after all flying the flag for east lancs.
Who do you think we will sign, Barry Ferguson from Blackpool would be the level of our pulling power and maybe a cheeky punt for goodwillie as he would obviously be the new messi when he pulled on claret and blue. We could get both for free although goodwillies 10k wages could be a sticking point as its 5k max at this shietehole

Useful information for the super Clarets' fans on here, and the Rovers dullards.

Having seen Irvine appointed at WBA, its great to see Koeman has been appointed at Southampton. His first target is a striker and Southampton are to approach Eredivisie club Sc Heerenveen about 29 goal Alfred Finnbogason.

Ah, the East-Lancs Bickerfest; truly the outlet for the bloodlust of the unemployed during peace-time.

But hey, talking of predictions, how did serial-name-changer AP4B/TurfmoorTom/Ewo

I just bet Ladbrokes would LOVE the Serial-Name-Changer as much as he's loved by any middle-of-the-road poker player. I've never witnessed him getting even one single prediction correct! Even the law of averages would see him right once in a blue moon but he hasn't had ANY blue moons!

Excuse me sir, is this MUGS R US? Two quality signings by Rovers and within the FFP footprint whereas you Mugs are giving them away. Question for all you Burnley MUGS, if you are giving players away, can we have Tripper as he is too good for you MUGS to hang onto?

Now were having this "financial fair play regulation" excuse thrown down our throat in every single article. As far as i'm aware, its not in effect currently. We can still operate within the financial fair play rules if we spend 10 million on a couple of players and cut our current wage bill down.

Adnan Januzaj the Belgium starlet at Man Utd is supposedly our loan target as Derek Shaws mate David Moyes is thinking of letting him get some match experience.

Last season we didn't scab a draw you lost the best chance you will EVER have of taking three points off us. You had your chance and blew it! Saturday normal service will be resumed and you will wander the town centre with your tail between your legs once again.

I feel that Burnley are well overdue a good drubbing from Rovers, three years without beating Burnley really is too long. Burnley have had it easy the last two seasons so I expect a resounding victory at Ewood in March.

This season is striking remarkable resemblance to the Rovers promotion season. If we keep on like this I actually think we may totally destroy Burnley at home. Their defence and midfield is sub-standard. At Ewood park I can see another Barnsley/Bolton performance of total domination. Anyone up for 5-0 this time? :-) The dingles will always be the rejects of Lancashire.

God bless the Venky's and their continued splashing of cash on our club. If we got promoted, as long as we had a decent manager, we would be staying up. That is the difference between a small east lancs club and a big one.

Keep those predictions coming no-dads!
