Pupils from Accrington Academy high school took victory in an inclusive football tournament to seal their place at this year’s SPAR Lancashire School Games county finals.

The team from Accrington Academy competed against three other schools from across the district to finish in first place, and will progress to the School Games County Final where the pupils will compete against other football hopefuls from across Lancashire.

St Augustine’s finished in second place while Mount Carmel and Broadfield finished joint third after an extremely close game between the teams at the tournament.

Jane Johnson, Hyndburn School Games Organiser, said: “This year’s inclusive football tournament was a fantastic event to witness.

“All those who took part should be extremely proud of their achievements.

“The sportsmanship demonstrated was excellent with all pupils playing together incredibly well.

“Well done to Accrington Academy for their much deserved win.

“The team were unbeaten throughout the whole competition and will hopefully be victorious again when we cheer them on at the Lancashire School Games finals.”

The School Games County final will take place at Stanley Park in Blackpool on July 1.
