Burnley Gymnastics Club created history on Sunday by entering boys into a competition for the first time since the Craig Heap days.

The boys were taking part in the County two Piece Competition organised by the North West Gymnastics Association at the regional competition venue Wigan Robin Park.

In the Under Eights event, Henry Sutcliffe was crowned Lancashire Champion at Level 1 with Alex Needham closely following with Silver.

In the Under 10s, Mason Wright was crowned Lancashire Vault Champion at Level 1 while taking a silver medal overall.

Maximos Vlassis and Jack Thompson picked up silver medals on the floor routine with Owen Birnie taking home a bronze.

Mason Wright also took third place from all of the North West on Vault.

In the Under 12s Edward Burnie took home a clean sweep of Gold Medals at Level 1One.

Harvey Bretherton was entered into a tough Level Four group but still managed to produce a great performance to take home Silver on the Vault and Bronze on Floor whilst taking the Silver medal overall.

On the same bill taking part in the senior team event in the afternoon was GB London 2012 Olympic Bronze Medallist and 3-time British All-round Champion Daniel Purvis who was on hand to sign autographs and pose for photos with the lads.

He later led his Southport Club to victory over Bury and Manchester.
