NELSON Under 13s claimed a fine win over Lowerhouse with Keiron Cunningham shining with the ball.

Batting first at the Neville Gee Recruitment Ground, Lowerhouse totalled 233-4 with Cunningham taking the honours thanks to a fine spell of bowling.

His three overs saw two maidens as he claimed 1-1.

Nelson then claimed victory as Tim Barnes made 19 and Spencer Phelan hit 16 not out as the Seedhillites got home by two runs.

Cunningham was also the pick of the Nelson bowlers for Lancashire League U13s game at Rishton – even though they were beaten at Blackburn Road.

He claimed 2-5 and Joseph Whitlam picked up 2-2 as a good fielding display from Nelson restricted Rishton to 69-8.

Nelson’s innings got off to a poor start as they slipped to 8-3 but a stand of 35 between Sam Johnson (21) and Ben Dinning (17) almost saw them home. However, they slipped in the lower order and were all out for 55.

And there was disappointment for Nelson in the league cup as they were beaten by Todmroden, who claimed a four-wicket win at Seedhill. Matthew Pettinger made an unbeaten 28 as Nelson scored 85-5 and Johnson then claimed two early wickets to put Todmorden on the back foot.

However, the Centre Vale outfit rallied and got home with three balls to spare.
