ST Bede’s High School’s under 15s girls’ team will travel to Reading’s Madejski Stadium on May 21 to face Fullbrook School in the final of the PlayStation Cup.

The Blackburn team have won a total of seven matches to reach the final of the national 11-a-side tournament for secondary schools.

Their final will be part of the PlayStation Schools’ Cup Festival at the Madejski over three days, ending on May 21.

More than 5,000 spectators are expected to attend the festival, which will see schools from all over England contest 15 different finals.

Before their match, finalists will get the chance to use either the home or away dressing room at the Championship side’s state-of-the-art stadium to sample an authentic match-day experience.

Pupils from St Bede’s High School have also been invited along to the event to support their friends and enjoy a number of activities including a PlayStation gaming experience, a half-time crossbar challenge for spectators and live commentary for each game.

They face Fullbrook School from Surrey after defeating Congleton High School 3-2 in the semi finals.

Previously they had thrashed Idsall School 9-0 in the quarter finals and Woodhey High School 8-2 in the sixth round.

They overcame Ormskirk School 4-1 in the fifth round and hit double figures in their first three games in the competitions – thrashing Lymm High School 10-0, Broughton High School 13-1 and Norden High School and Sports College 14-0.

In total the PlayStation Schools’ Cup competitions have involved nearly 2,000 schools this year in a range of age groups. The tournaments are a partnership between PlayStation and the English Schools’ FA (ESFA).

Previous stars that have benefited from competing in ESFA grassroots tournaments include David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Michael Owen, Phil Neville and Jermain Defoe.
