Craven Cup: Rimington are kings of the Craven Cup

Final Rimington made it a hat-trick of Craven Cup wins and their ninth in 13 years, with a solid display at Skipton Town.

The locals struggled to find any rhythm, over-hitting passes or looking the ‘glory’ pass instead of keeping it simple.

Oli McLean, playing on the right, had the beating of the full-back, and his run and cross just eluded Blackburn by inches with just the keeper to beat.

Ingleton’s first real chance came on 35 minutes, a ball into the area heading for a forward, but Kershaw was alert and came to claim.

Ingleton began the second half by forcing a corner in the opening minute, the cross was dropped by Kershaw as he collided with one of his defenders, but the forward could only toe-poke wide.

But Rimington went ahead when Hickling struck a magnificent volley straight into the top corner.

Two minutes later and another tackle from McLean set up the move, Lloyd collecting the ball and sending a curler towards goal – it struck the bar but Dinsdale reacted to chest down and score.

He was now in the thick of the action, the Ingleton side having no answer to his surging runs from the right side of midfield, and when Lloyd combined with Heslop to send over a great left- foot cross, Dinsdale should have done better than to head wide.

However, he was not to wait much longer for his second when Lloyd helped the ball into his path for him to coolly lob the keeper for 3-0.

Boss Terry Braithwaite was pleased and relieved with the win and said: “This has been a very difficult season for us, losing important players throughout, finishing third in the league, we feared it may be the first season we haven’t won a trophy in my 14 year reign.

“But we shouldn’t have worried as the lads again proved what a fantastic spirit they have.”
