IAN Wilkinson’s bid for a fourth Tour Series triumph gets under way tonight when the 2014 series starts in Stoke.

Barnoldswick’s Wilkinson was in the winning Team UK Youth squad last year having previously won the title with Halfords BikeHut in 2009 and Endura Racing in 2012.

The 33-year-old has switched to Raleigh for this season and believes his squad are well equipped for a tilt at the overall title in the 10-race series.

“We have a very talented squad and we have a lot of riders capable of doing well.

“The Tour Series is a bit different because it’s not about individual wins, it’s about getting your first three riders high up so it is important to have a strong squad.

“We’ve had a good season so far and we have some riders capable of sprinting to victories while others who can get into the breaks.

“I think we have got a really good chance and I am looking forward to it.

“It is the team’s big target for the season. It is on TV and the crowds are always big so it is important for us to do well.

“I have managed to be involved in a few winning teams and it would be great to win again.

“The races come thick and fast and there is the chance to rest a few guys but I think I will ride most of the rounds.”

Wilkinson was in action last weekend in the Lincoln Grand Prix where he finished 31st in tough conditions.

But Raleigh did enjoy success with Yanto Barker taking the overall victory.
