BLACKBURN Rovers will not be signing Bryan Dabo permanently.

Rovers had the opportunity to buy the midfielder after his loan from Montpellier expired at the end of the season.

But Gary Bowyer has no intention of taking up the option.

Dabo arrived at Ewood Park with a reputation as a player of some promise after he played 20 times in the French top flight for Montpellier and once for France U21s.

But in an underwhelming four-month stay at Rovers he failed to make a single first-team appearance despite being named as a substitute on eight occasions.

Dabo’s chances were not helped by the return to fitness of Corry Evans.

However the 22-year-old did play three times for Rovers’ U21s team, scoring twice in a 4-2 defeat at Aston Villa.

But his erratic displays – his mistake led to Eric Kinder’s side losing their Lancashire FA Senior Cup quarter-final tie at home to Bury – showed he was not ready for the Championship.

Bowyer is unlikely to add another centre-midfielder to his squad this summer given he has Tom Cairney, Corry Evans, Jason Lowe, Lee Williamson, Chris Taylor and Dickson Etuhu at his disposal.

What that means for Josh Morris is unclear.

The 22-year-old has mainly featured for Rovers in a left-sided role.

But he has stood out in a central position during a successful loan spell for promotion-chasing Fleetwood Town.

Morris, the League Two player of the month for April, will be part of the Cod Army team that heads to York City tonight for their play-off semi-final first leg.

And Bowyer said: “I’m delighted for Josh and hopefully Fleetwood can get through the play-offs and finish it off with a Wembley appearance.

“That would be terrific for Josh to play in.

“Competitive football is what he needed and what he wanted.

“We could not guarantee him that with the form of Craig Conway and Tommy Spurr because he can play in two positions.

“But he’s gone out there and enjoyed himself and won the player of the month award.

“We’ll have to see what happens during the summer but he’s done himself no harm with the performances he’s put in for Fleetwood.”

Former Rovers trialist Louis Laing, meanwhile, is attracting interest from Newcastle United.

The 21-year-old centre back, who is set to be released by Newcastle’s north-east rivals Sunderland, impressed Bowyer during his time at Brockhall.

But Laing left Rovers to go on trial to Manchester United.

United are understood to want to sign the England youth international.

But it has been reported they are now facing competition from Newcastle.
