IT was a fitting end to a great season for Rossendale U14s when they lifted the silverware at the Aldwinians tournament after six wins from six games with only one try conceded.

The first of the pool games saw Rossendale beat Littleborough 36-0, with the Dale tries coming from Rhys Tighe, Jordan Fortune, James Willetts, Mark Rutherford-Shaw and two from Tom Haigh. Willetts added three conversions.

Their next game saw them defeat Aldwinians 38-5. Tighe led the try scoring with a hat-trick as Callum Pelling, Willetts and Haigh also touched down. Willetts added three kicks while Ciaran Campbell also landed a conversion.

Rossendale’s tails were well and truly up now as they faced Broughton Park. This game was not as high scoring, but Rossendale still managed to dominate possession and win 15-0, after tries from Jordan Fortune, Willetts and Michael Brierley.

Rossendale’s fourth game of the tournament saw them up against another side they had not faced, Wrexham. Dale broke through with a try from Tighe. Further tries from James and Rutherford-Shaw, plus a conversion from Willetts, saw Rossendale win 17-0.

The final game of the pool stages saw Rossendale beat Glossop & Marple 34-0, with scores coming from Tighe, Haigh, Idrees Nazir and two apiece from Brierley and Fortune, plus conversions from Willetts and Fortune.

This put Rossendale into the final against Broughton Park.

After getting this far without defeat, the pressure was on Dale to hold their nerve and they did not disappoint winning 24-0 with tries from Tighe, Isaac Cornwall, Rutherford-Shaw, Haigh and Campbell and conversions for James Willetts and Tighe.
