Vinnie O’Donnell and Graham Wood retained the Lawrenson Cup Double competition in a thrilling final at Peel Park, Accrington.

The Rushton Street ‘A’ pair were up against Mick Opie and Steve Anderton of Globe Heys in the final of a competition jointly hosted by Sydney Street and Coppice Bowling Clubs.

Opie and Anderton had the better of the opening ends, but after levelling at four across, O’Donnell and Wood raced to a 12-4 lead – which was extended to 17-6. Opie and Anderton hit back and gradually reduced the arrears to 19-12 and then scored a maximum, to move within striking distance at 19-16.

However, O’Donnell and Wood recovered to get the required two at the next end to retain the trophy.
