Dyche determined to keep Burnley striker for top-flight campaign

The top scorer, who rounded off the season with his 26th goal in a 2-2 draw at Reading, has attracted interest from a number of top flight clubs after firing the Clarets to promotion.

The 21-year-old was named the Football League's Championship player of the year and in the PFA Championship team of the year, and added to his list of achievements with caps and goals for the England Under 21s.

It has subsequently said to have made him a target for teams including Liverpool, Southampton and Spurs.

But Burnley are determined to make sure he is leading the line for them next season, and not coming up against him.

"The board have already made it clear that Danny was not available and that's why we had no bids for him in January. They made it clear the year before with Charlie Austin.

"We've been strong like that, so that's a good thing.

"Obviously when a player's playing well, and we've had a number this year, there are always rumours, there's always people floating around, there's always people looking.

"It is that ying and yang scenario. You want the team to do well, when it does well you get other people coming and saying 'why are they doing well' and they look at your players."

Ings, who scored in an opening day 1-1 draw with Bolton Wanderers, book-ended his season by scoring Burnley's final goal at the Madejski Stadium, where they were held to a draw.

It was his first goal since the winner against Blackburn Rovers in March, after which he had a month out with an ankle injury.

"I thought he was sharp again. I've got to be honest I think some of his performances have been excellent," said Dyche.

"He was very good against Ipswich last week and he's done things that I notice, the staff notice, fans don't always notice. I think he's been terrific and he's capped it off with a great goal. It just gives him another feather in his cap at the end of a marvellous season."
