NIGHT of Thunder produced a 40/1 shock to win the 206th renewal of the 2000 Guineas but it was the third that has seen a wave of support in the aftermath and Ballydoyle’s Australia backed into the 6/4 favourite with BetVictor for the Derby at Epsom next month.

A bank holiday Monday means no less than six meetings in Britain and a further two across in Ireland, including the Mooresbridge Stakes at the Curragh – won last year by another Aidan O’Brien charge, the dual Guineas and Derby winner Camelot.

His Irish Guineas and Breeders Cup Turf winner Magician (4.15) makes the first start of a much-anticipated 4-y-o campaign and will take all the beating en route to further honours expected throughout the season.

There’s an excellent card at Kempton for the for the final jumps card of the season with the handicap chase over three miles looking the pick and Emma Lavelle’s progressive Caulfields Venture (3.25) taken to return to winning ways with Aidan Coleman back in the plate.

The gelding narrowly missed out on completing a five-timer last month at Fontwell when failing to collar Fruity over two miles and six furlongs and the return to three miles should see him in a much better light, taken to defy a further 7lb rise at the weights.

Pepite Rose and Claret Cloak (4.35) were due to meet in the G1 Celebration Chase at Sandown ten days ago with the Emma Lavelle 7-y-o pulled out due to the rain-softened ground.

The Lavelle charge gets his preferred ground and is taken to sign of his season by taking an excellent renewal of the two mile handicap chase.

The flat is back at Warwick and it is interesting to see the arrival of former champion jockey Paul Hanagan in the Midlands, with boss Sheikh Hamdan having runners elsewhere.

He presumably goes there to ride the New Approach colt Munasser (4.50) for Sir Michael Stoute, a horse punted into favouritism on his two previous visits to a racetrack.

The colt was third on debut in a warm maiden at Yarmouth last season before never travelling at Pontefract on ground softer than ideal. He remains entered in the Derby and should be able to shed the maiden tag at the third attempt.
