BEST Centre Young Guns Table Tennis Team caused a major shock and created history doing so by winning the Prestigious East Lancashire League Fred Holden Cup.
Victory in the final against experienced Premier Division side Ward & Stobbart ensure that the team became the first team ever to win the cup in their first season.
The team finished fifth in the Third Division despite being rock bottom after four games. They certainly didn’t do it the easy way either by beating reigning Premier Division champions Burnley Boys Club in round two and local rivals BEST Centre in an epic semi-final.
The standout performance came from 14-year-old Dylan Storey who took to the game to the higher rank opposition. In a rich vein of form, Dylan was also crowned the East Lancashire League Open Champion (handicapped) in March and will be one to watch in the future.
Captain Richard Tokeley said: “It was a great performance by all the players who are improving all the time.
“It’s nice to get some silverware in our first season and we look forward to making a real push for the Third Division title.”
The team will collect their silverware at the East Lancashire Table Tennis League’s prize night.
Anybody looking to play table tennis can do so on Mondays (7.30-9pm) at the BEST Centre on Network 65. Ring 01282 455068 or email info@the bestcentre.com
