The Blackburn Sunday Football League went into the last round of games on Sunday with titles still up for grabs.

In Division One, Clifton needed to beat Mill Hill in a winner-takes-all final game to take the title but found themselves behind when a ball from Ben Singleton was helped into the path of Carl Mercer who finished with a sweet overhead kick to put Mill Hill in front, giving the Clifton keeper no chance.

Mill Hill led at half time by the single goal and although they could have been forgiven for trying to sitting on their lead, there was none of it and the champions started the second half looking to add to their tally.

And 55 minutes the game was over when, after a series of corners, Lee Lysons rose at the back post to increase their lead and put Mill Hill in control.

Not long after the game was as good as over as Gaz Smith was dismissed by referee Dave Mason for stamping on Mill Hill young midfielder Tyler Heyhurst.

Although Clifton tried to get back in the game, it was too little, too late and the Mill Hill men claimed their third consecutive league title.

In the only other game in Division One Oswaldtwistle St Mary’s ran out 7-4 winners against AMT Lawyers.

Crown Paints needed a deluge of goals to deny Whinney Hill their place in the top flight in their final game against Black Bull to take the final promotion spot. And although the cup finalist gave their all, they could only beat Black Bull 15-1 to see the Hyndburn side clinch the final promotion spot.

In Division Three Whinney Hill Celtic took the Third Division title with a 3-0 victory over Hyndburn Youth while Helmshore Harriers clinched promotion in their second season in the league with a 3-2 win over Brown Cow Olympic. Golden Cup Rishton Rangers 2-1.
