RISHTON United will be gunning for a splendid league and cup double when they tackle Hole I'th Wall in the Birtwistle Cup final on Saturday (May 3).

Rishton celebrated their Blackburn Premier Division Combination title, overpowering Hole I'th Wall 4-2 in the final weekend of the regular season.

Now United will be hoping for fresh success when they lock horns with their cup final opponents at Darwen's Anchor Ground this weekend (3pm) Rishton, who trailed Blackburn United for so long in a thrilling two horse title race, timed their winning run to perfection, scoring a century of goals in their 20 league starts.

Hole I'th Wall have a second cup final cup final to look forward to before they hang up their boots for the summer when they meet runners-up Blackburn United in the Sports Council Cup final, also at Darwen a week later.

Meanwhile, Vauxhall Inn, who clinched third spot, signed off with a 5-2 win over Anchor while relegated Greenfield ended a sorry campaign with a 4-1 home reverse to Clifton.

The Ivy Veterans proved their is life in the old legs as they won the Second Division by a single point from Clayton Park.

Now the Vets will also be out to to the double when they lock horns with Whalley Range in the Cotton Cup final at Darwen (May 13).
