THE Ivy are within touching distance of their first East Lancashire League title.

Victory tonight over Read United would mean another win against Enfield next weekend would be enough to give the former Blackburn Combination outfit the crown.

The Ivy could only snatch a point against champions Rimington, who have now completed their campaign.

Ash Watson and Chris Gallagher weighed in with the goals for The Ivy in a 2-2 draw at Back Lane.

Gallagher, whose cousin Paul was on the mark for Preston in last weekend's 3-1 win over Gillingham, netted his fiftieth goal of the season, and now The Ivy will be banking on him firing them to the championship.

But The Ivy will have to get past leaders Burnley Athletic first though, who clocked up a 2-1 win at Rock Rovers to maintain a two point lead over The Ivy.

Enfield are finishing their campaign with a surge after a 4-1 win over Calder Vale, while Langho edged past Stackstead St Josephs 4-3.

Oswaldtwistle St Marys were also in the winning groove, beating Mill Hill 3-1.

In the Second Division's only fixture, Waddington were the big winners, thrashing bottom club Peel Park 7-0.

In the Reserve Division, leaders Whinney Hill clocked up a 2-0 victory at Stacksteads. while Read United, who finished third, crushed Barrowford Celtic 8-1.
