HURST Green kept their promotion hopes alive – but rivals Hesketh Bank are favourites to snatch the final berth.

Hurst Green completed their programme with a battling 2-1 win at Dalton United, John Welsh's 80th minute winner handing them a vital win.

Now Hurst Green must hope Hesketh Bank – who they meet in tonight's final of the Presidents Cup at Charnock Richard – slip up in their final three league fixtures as they bid to overhaul a two point deficit and deny Hurst Green promotion.

Hesketh Bank can seal promotion when they go to Dalton United next Monday.

At the other end of the table in Division One, Mill St Peters are facing the drop after their latest loss, a 1-0 reverse at Ambleside United.

In Division Two, Ben Whittam and Andy Dale were on the mark for Todmorden Borough, but GSK Ulverston Rangers edged it 3-2.

Meanwhile, in Division One reserves, a double from Mike Robinson and a Toby Wilkinson striker saw Haslingden St Mary's home 3-1 at Wyre Villa.
