BLACKBURN Rovers U17s continued their winning start to the Spartak Cup in Moscow yesterday with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Dinamo Minsk.

Fresh from beating Monaco by the same scoreline on Tuesday, the Ewood Park youngsters settled a bad-tempered contest with a ninth-minute goal from Adrian Edo.

Jack Doyle played a short corner to Edo and he bent the ball over everyone in the box and into the far corner of the net.

Rovers, with Callum Williams, Lewis Mansell, Josh Askew and Eno all coming in for their first starts of the tournament, could not find a second goal in the blustery conditions.

But one was enough to ensure they maintained their 100 per cent record in the annual event, which this year also features young teams from the Kuban Krasnodar, Spartak Moscow and Rapid Vienna clubs.

Rovers, who lost Scott Wharton to injury, take on Kuban Krasnodar this afternoon.

Each side will play each other once in a round robin format.

The team that tops the table at the end of the tournament will lift the Spartak Cup.

Barcelona were last year’s winners.

But they were unable to return to the Russian capital to defend their crown.

* Blackburn Rovers play host to the FA Sunday Cup final between Oyster Martyrs of Liverpool and Humbledon Plains Farm of Sunderland on Sunday.

Kick-off at Ewood Park is 2pm.
