Pupils from Whittlefield Primary School are through to the SPAR Lancashire School Games County Final after taking victory in orienteering.

The team from Whittlefield sealed their place in the final after beating 10 schools from Burnley and will now face the other winners from across the county.

The SPAR Lancashire School Games is organised by the Lancashire Local Organising Committee (LOC) and sponsored by James Hall & Company Ltd, the SPAR distributors for the North of England.

Around 3,000 primary and secondary pupils from across the county are expected to take part in the events which are part of the national £128m School Games programme, aimed at motivating and inspiring millions of youngsters to take part in competitive school sport.

Helen Tyson, school games organiser for Burnley, said: “It was great to see the children taking part in an outdoor sporting activity that provided them with the opportunity to learn new skills such as map reading. “Whittlefield is thrilled to be representing team Burnley and is looking forward to the county final in Blackpool.

“The team will now work with local orienteering club Pendle Forest Orienteering Club to further develop their skills in preparation.

“The club delivered the event and I would like to thank them for delivering such a brilliant, albeit very wet, event.”

The SPAR Lancashire School Games County Final will take place at Stanley Park in Blackpool on July 1.
