RICK Geoghegan will be hoping history repeats itself when Fulledge Colts Under 13s compete in an international tournament in Spain this week.
The team are currently in Barcelona taking part in the Blanes Cup – a tournament Rick won as a player himself.
While the aim is to give the players the experience of playing in a top class tournament, Rick said the team are there to try and win. “I was lucky enough to have played in this tournament twice and we won it once.
“So we will be going to try and do our best and try and win it.
“It is a great opportunity for the lads so while we hope to have success in Spain the aim is to also gain experience and help build a good cohesion in the squad.”
Rick won the Blanes Cup – which attracts top junior teams from across Europe – while playing for Borrowdale United. He also went to Spain as part of the St Joseph’s team as well.
Fulledge have won their divisision in the Accrington and District Junior Boys League, winning 14 of their 15 matches, and they are also through to the cup final.
They have scored 76 goals this season with hot-shot Bailey Thompson the Colts leading scorer.
