CHORLEY star Ryan Bennett got his British Swimming Championship campaign off to a solid start as he qualified for the semi-finals of the 100m backstroke in Glasgow this morning.

Bennett, 23, will be back in the pool tonight for the semi-finals having qualified 13th fastest. He goes in the first of those with the main threat coming from Chris Walker-Hebborn and Marco Loughran - who qualified second and fourth fastest respectively.

Favourite Liam Tancock, who was quickest in the heats, goes in the second semi-final with the evening session under way at 6pm.

The final takes place on Friday night.
