Millwall set to cut short DJ Campbell's loan from Blackburn Rovers

MILLWALL are set to cancel the loan spell of Blackburn Rovers striker DJ Campbell.

The 32-year-old has scored two goals in nine appearances for the Lions since signing on loan until the end of the season from Rovers in January.

Campbell was one of six men arrested by the National Crime Agency (NCA) in December as part of an in investigation into alleged spot-fixing in football.

He was not charged and released on bail until April 8.

Last Thursday (April 3) the NCA released a statement confirming it had re-arrested the six original suspects based upon new evidence along with a further seven footballers aged between 18 and 30 who play for clubs based in the north west of England.

A further NCA statement on Friday (April 4) confirmed that the 13 individuals, who were interviewed at police stations across the country, had been bailed until late June.

It is understood that Millwall retained the option of ending Campbell’s loan spell when agreeing a deal with Rovers in January.

Another terrible signing that we are going to be stuck with forever and unfortunately he was signed on GB's watch this time.

Not surprising news really as DJ has not figured in any of the last three Millwall games in an unbeaten run that has seen them draw with us and beat (surprisingly) both Wigan and Forest. Hope its only a short stay back at Ewood before we can sell him.

Can't blame this on Bowyer. He had to be taken on in summer because of the pomise made to him when he came on loan in February. Club tried to wriggle out but Campbell held them to he promise.

I think you will find he was signed on a pre contract agreement one of shaggy dings brown envelope deals but if he is guilty of match fixing they can sue for all the wages paid and transfer fee. He should be told to train at home we obviously have a happy dressing room/club and do not want this tosser upsetting it.

I'm really looking forward to next season. With the 3 top striking powerhouse's in Best, Campbell and Goodwillie we will have at our disposal this is bound to strike fear into even the toughest Championship defense's. After Steve Kean rightly dubbed Goodwillie the next Wayne Rooney it's only a matter of time until he's scoring for fun. Don't worry fellow Rovers we will be following into the footsteps of our neighbours before you know it!

Rovers would be on a very sticky wicket if they cancelled his contract purely on the basis of allegations. If and when he is found guilty that's another matter but with the time these things take to get to court we are probably stuck with him for at least another year.

Yes but he's on bail until June then if hes charged it'll probably be next year before a trial and only if he gets found guilty can you probably sack him for gross misconduct.

But in the mean time he'll.be still trousering 35 K a week!

No, no. I think Rovers will not be able to sue him for wages paid – if so Millwall would. It doesn’t work like that. And if Rovers bring a court case it will lengthy and costly. Best to just get rid.
