IMPRESSED Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer hailed his in-form side’s rousing 2-0 home victory over high-flying QPR as their best and most complete performance of the season.

Rovers made it back-to-back wins and stretched their unbeaten run to seven games thanks to goals either side of half-time from Rudy Gestede and Tommy Spurr.

And Bowyer reckoned it was the least they deserved for a dominant display in which they outplayed the Hoops.

“We’ve had some impressive halves and spells in games but for the complete 90 minutes we were excellent and the players deserve all the credit,” said Bowyer.

“From start to finish they were right at it and they were truly a credit to the football club against a tough team.

“We did what people call the ugly side of the game ever so well and played at the right time – and played some really good stuff. It was very pleasing.”

Whereas Rovers looked a team very much on the up QPR, who are now without a win in three matches, resembled one who have given up all hope of catching second-placed Burnley.

Hoops boss Harry Redknapp, whose side slipped to fourth after their sixth defeat in their last away games, said: “At 1-0 down we were still in the game but the second goal at the start of the second half was a blow.

“We had one or two chances, Will Keane should have scored but hit the post from eight yards out.

“But I thought they played well and we stood off them far too often.

“I thought we got what we deserved. They were stronger than us and their front two (Gestede and Jordan Rhodes) were a handful. They looked a good side.”

Bowyer was quick to pay tribute to goalscorers Gestede and Spurr but he saved some of his biggest praise for fit-again midfielder Jason Lowe.

After missing five matches with an ankle injury Lowe was thrust back into the side after Corry Evans was ruled out with a groin problem and given the job of negating the influence of Ravel Morrison, the Championship’s player of the month.

And Bowyer felt it was a task he completed admirably.

He said: “Lowey was outstanding. He was given a job and a half to do because Ravel Morrison is Premier League quality and he did it to magnificent effect.

“A lot of people don’t see what he brings to the team but if you really studied the game you would see his performance was right up there.”
